Growing up in the 70’s & 80’s we were bathed in a variety of urban music from Soul, Funk, Jazz Funk, RnB, Rare Groove, Hip Hop & Reggae.
I was heavily drawn to the Soul music that emerged in the eighties such as Raw Silk‘s ‘Do it to the music ‘, The Limit ‘s ‘Say Yeah’, Stevie Wonder ‘s – ‘Do I Do’ and especially tunes like I-Level’s – ‘In The Sand.’
I began Djng in my late teens, mainly playing at house parties across South London where I grew up. I also grew up in the sound system culture where we built all our speakers in my bedroom. I was lucky to have what would normally be the front room as a bedroom so both alcoves either side of the chimneybreast housed a stack of speakers each which consisted of a 18” scoop base bin and on top of it was a 12” mid range topped with a bank of built tweeters.
Needless to say you can imagine the amount of cussing I would get from my parents and neighbors..
From the 90’s into the 2000’s I had residencies and played at various pubs and nightclubs across London.
In the early 90’s I was drawn to the House and Garage sounds to which I started predominantly playing alongside the genres mentioned above.
You can her me playing Soulful vibes each and every weekend on my show ‘Release Your Soul’ where the whole idea is to let your inner self out to Release and move any way you want to.
