Farewell D’Angelo

Written by on

D’Angelo otherwise known as Michael Eugene Archer was born February 11, 1974, in Richmond, Virginia. D’Angelo was an American singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer celebrated for his profound influence on contemporary R&B and neo-soul.

D’Angelo first gained widespread attention with his 1995 debut album Brown Sugar, which featured hits like “Lady” and “Brown Sugar.” His soulful voice, musicianship, and fusion of classic soul with modern hip-hop rhythms helped define the emerging neo-soul movement alongside artists like Jill Scott, Erykah Badu, Bilal, Anthony Hamilton, Eric Roberson, Amel Larrieux, N’Dambi, Lauryn Hill and Rahsaan Paterson.
In 2000, he released the critically acclaimed Voodoo, which won a Grammy Award for Best R&B Album and produced the iconic single “Untitled (How Does It Feel).” After a long hiatus marked by personal challenges, D’Angelo returned triumphantly in 2014 with Black Messiah, an album praised for its political consciousness, dense musicianship, and raw emotion.
Known for his artistry, mystique, and perfectionism, D’Angelo will remain one of the most respected and enigmatic figures in modern music, bridging the spirit of classic soul and funk with contemporary sound and social commentary. D’Angelo unapologetically showcased his talents, embodied the soulful truth and artfully embraced sensitivity coupled with strength with an abundance of love.
Energy lives forever.
